Welcome rodeo fans, to the 61st annual Redding Rodeo!
I am Shannon McPhee, and I am honored to be your Miss Redding Rodeo 2009. I am 21 years old and the daughter of Doug and Yvonne McPhee of Cottonwood. I graduated from West Valley High School in 2005 and went on to Feather River College in Quincy, California to study sports medicine and compete in college rodeo. Now that I am back in the Redding area, I am busy working and riding horses.
My life has always revolved around horses, rodeo and the lifestyle that comes with it. I spend most of my time riding horses and enjoying the outdoors. Barrel racing became my passion at a young age. I competed in gymkhana, Jr. Rodeo, High School rodeo, National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, and the California Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association as well as barrel races around California. My rodeo days have been the best of my life and I couldn't be more grateful for the friends I have made over the years. Rodeo people truly are the best kind!
I am very excited about the next few months ahead. As Miss Redding Rodeo, it is very important to me, to inform as many people as I can about rodeo. I have a very full calendar and plan to attend as many events and rodeo's as possible to represent Redding and the great sport of Professional Rodeo. Some of the distant rodeos include, Oakdale rodeo, California Rodeo Salinas, and Reno Rodeo and the drill team competition where our very own Womens and Junior drill teams will be competing. I will also be attending several local events such as the Shasta District Fair, Redding Chamber of Commerce Industrial BBQ, and the Shasta County Farm Bureau's Spring Social.
I would like to send a big thanks to my family and friends for always being behind me in everything I do. Thank you to the Redding Rodeo association for all of their support over the years. And most of all, thank you to our rodeo sponsors and rodeo fans! This rodeo would not be possible with out our local community support! I hope you all enjoy one of California's top rodeos, here in the beautiful north state!!
Happy Trails!
